Miro Discovery Center - Executive Briefing Template

Project Summary

Miro

Project:

Miro Discovery Center - Executive Briefing Template

Date:

Aug 2023

Mission

With a fancy new office on the way, the Miro Discovery Center wanted to update their Executive Briefing template used throughout all their engagements.

The current template was simple, and didn't communicate a 'Wow' factor.

This project sought to demonstrate the platform's capabilities inside a themed location that matched the team's style and ethos.

Objectives

  • There should be an over-arching theme of 'Edgeless' to align with the new Miro office.
  • Integrate Miro's new visual identity
  • "Simple but not underwhelming"
  • Configurable for different scenarios and easy to fill out - taking no more than 1 hour to fill in the board.
  • Ability to personalise the board to each customer's brand

Services

Services I provided:

  • Design Discovery phase to identity the current challenges and goals
  • Research and stylistic concepts
  • Visual workshop design
  • Miro board build

Design Discovery

decorative line

The design discovery digs deeper into the daily challenges, needs and desires of the current reality.

Key topics:

Hand drawn Check mark

How do they currently update their briefing template, and how would it work in an ideal world?

Hand drawn Check mark

What popular or new Miro features should we make sure to showcase as part of the experience?

Hand drawn Check mark

Moodboards helped guide the question "What does 'Simple but not underwhelming' mean for you?"

Hand drawn Check mark

What did 'Edgeless' mean for each team member? And how might we visualise it?

Concepts

decorative line

'Discovery' is the core purpose of the team's engagements - curiosity and exploration being vital pillars to understanding and supporting their customers.

And so we had decided on the theme of outer space exploration. Where the Agenda is a control center into the different planets of discovery.

Key Notes:

Hand drawn Check mark

Phase 1 Concepts didn't quite hit the mark - they were too detailed and put more emphasis on the visuals rather than the content. Back to 'Simple but not underwhelming'

Hand drawn Check mark

An initial planetary system was derived from a commonly used Miro network icon. Again, more detailed than we wanted.

In the end we simplified the execution. Phase 2 concepts replaced the 3D approach, and instead presented a straight on view that set the scene without competing for attention.

The Result

Outcome

The final result is a planetary exploration through edgeless spaces. A complete birds-eye-view takeaway for each session, housed in a special environment that feels special without being intimidating.

Hand drawn Check mark

Modular - the journey is adaptable for different tyeps of sessions

Hand drawn Check mark

Brandable - Coloured shapes and spaces for client logos offer an easy yet powerful way to personalise the experience

Hand drawn Check mark

Simple yet not underwhelming - You won't find extra fluff in this board, but the overall experience is impressive and special.

Hand drawn Check mark

Playful - Leaning in to the team's joyous nature, certain elements such as the personalised astronauts and 'Mind the Gap' sign offer easter eggs of delight.

When I joined Miro almost 3 years ago, your name was one of the first I got to know. Now finally I got a chance to work with you. It's been a great journey and I am also very proud of what we (you!) have built.

We will use the board for a customer on September 17 and it will be a big reveal. We look forward to wow's and "oh my god this is amazing" comments from our customers as we unveil the board.

Thanks again and all the best!"
